Jessie Laine Powell, renowned for her soul-stirring voice, has been a prominent figure in the music scene for over 40 years. Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, she began her musical journey at age 8 and stepped into the professional arena at 14. Jessie's influences, ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to Gino Vannelli, shaped her unique blend of gospel, jazz, and R&B. Throughout her illustrious career, Jessie has graced stages alongside jazz greats like Nancy Wilson and Pharaoh Sanders.
Her television and theatrical endeavors include a starring role as Billie Holiday in the Tony Award-winning musical “Lady Day at the Emerson Bar & Grill.”Jessie's regular appearances at the East Hawaiian Jazz Festival, along with tours across three Hawaiian islands, and performances at the Rhythm & Soul Radio-sponsored events at the South by Southwest International Festival, have cemented her status as a versatile performer.
Jessie's discography showcases her talent for composing music and lyrics. Her debut album “On the Edge,” produced by Eric Copeland. A proud mother, wife, and grandmother, Jessie's achievements extend beyond music. She is the creator of the “Dream Manifestor” a community that transforms and inspires others to go after their dreams. She founded M.U.S.E (Motivated Understanding of Self Emerging), a mentorship program for young women in Lexington, and offers her expertise as a vocal coach to emerging talents.
Her eagerly anticipated second album “My Love Journey”, delving into the Soul/R&B & Smooth Jazz genre, is slated for release later in 2024. This album features songwriters: Gail Jhonson (Music Director for Norman Brown & Jazz In Pink bandleader), Will Brock (Music Director for Marion Meadows), Carol Riddick (Touring Vocalist for Will Downing & Gerald Veasley) and Sam Hankins (Trumpeter who toured with Al Jarreau, The O’Jays, and Aretha Franklin).
